Basingstoke Town are delighted to announce the return of experienced and popular defender Nathan Smart.
“Smarty has made no secret about his desire to one day return to Basingstoke” said Dan Brownlie “but in truth we didn’t think that would be for a couple of years, we always felt it was going to be a long shot. However, we spotted what looked like a window of opportunity last week so we thought we’d make a move and we’re so pleased it’s paid off. Nathan brings with him a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch – he’s a hugely likeable lad and he’s another leader to add to our pack. Whilst his time goes way beyond my years during his first stay with us, I know only too well how much our supporters value him.”
“Of course, the move is made even more valuable with the absence of Shaun [Dallimore] but with Smarty’s ability to play at both full back and centre half, we’ve given ourselves further options. I feel like we are in a good place, we’ve got a great range of backgrounds, ages and personalities and whilst we’re united in our willingness to win – its this groups differences that make them special. We know Smarty is going to fit right in and we’re excited to see him back in Basingstoke colours. It bolsters our defensive unit and with Reidy and Stefan baby steps away from a return, and Anton coming on board – we’re well equipped in all departments.”
Nathan will be available for selection in this evening’s league match with Northwood FC.
