The club are proud to announce and welcome new signing Mark Scott.
The 31 year old highly rated Goalkeeper previous clubs include Swindon Town, Oxford City and most recently Hungerford Town from where he signs. The experienced shot-stopper joins Basingstoke following a lengthy conversation with Dan Brownlie.
“We’d previously been looking for a goalkeeper to cover a couple of games that ‘Struds’ was unable to play in. We then recently learned of Mark’s availability having announced his departure from Hungerford earlier this week. The conversation began with the idea of covering those games, but transcended into a deeper chat about his desire to find a longer-term home.”
“Bringing in Mark was part of a longer-term view. He’s got great experience and everyone I have spoken to about him has sung his praises to high heaven. It was an opportunity we couldn’t turn down. Mark trained with the group and our keeper coaches Geraint and Lance this week and has fit in already – he’s played with a fair few of the boys at other clubs, so there is familiarity already here. He’s a top quality keeper with a wide ranging skill set that we feel will benefit the group. He’s excited to get going!”
“I have of course spoken to ‘Struds’ at the earliest point possible. Paul has been incredible for me at two clubs, his talent was deserving of higher grade football during his younger years – but I became a benefactor on two occasions. During my management he has been pretty much ever present – it was only a COVID issue which delayed his debut here at Basingstoke. I am a huge fan of Struds, a brilliant keeper and a special person. He’s helped me both on and off the pitch in so many ways and I am terribly fond of him. We’re really pleased that he’s agreed to stay with the squad – we’re sure today won’t be the last time you see him in a Basingstoke shirt. We have plans in place already.”
“We’ve had some really good keepers in recent seasons, Mark is a continuation of this ongoing ability to attract top quality keepers.”
Welcome aboard, Mark!
