Basingstoke Town is pleased to announce the newest addition to our backroom staff: Luca Avena.
Bringing a wealth of experience as the Lead Sports Scientist at Reading Football Club’s Academy, Luca joins us to bolster our efforts in enhancing physical fitness and player readiness through a comprehensive physical development program.
Luca’s journey in sports began at the University of Portsmouth, where he pursued a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science, followed by a Masters in Sports Performance.
Reflecting on his initial sessions with the team, Luca expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Basingstoke has a great group, both in staff and players. I’m thrilled to be working with Dan and the team in the upcoming campaign!”
Commenting on the appointment, Dan Brownlie emphasised the club’s commitment to player welfare, saying,
“We continuously look at ways we can add value to the players’ experience here at the Football Club. Luca’s arrival is another significant stride in doing just that. We’ve had an array of injury challenges this season, and our proactivity towards prevention has to be paramount. Whilst it’s not his complete focus – Luca’s expertise will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in doing that.”
“Whilst he’s only completed a handful of sessions to date – the lads have taken to his sessions really well – you can see lads chatting to him after games wanting even more info. He’s really likeable, he understands the nature of non-league and as a result has created a sensible and achievable plan. He’s very well qualified to lead that side of our game.”
Welcome to Basingstoke Town, Luca!
