We are proud to announce that Simon Grant has put pen to paper on a contract that will see him with us until the end of the 2024/25 season.
‘Granty’ has made an exceptional start to life as Basingstoke’s number one. The experienced keeper joined us January with an impressive debut away at Hanwell. Since that point, Simon has continued to impress the Basingstoke faithful with a number of outstanding performances. He was recently awarded the Player of the Month award by the Supporters Club for February. He completed his tenth game for us Monday afternoon; in that time he’s contributed to winning seven games alongside three clean sheets.
“I’m enjoying it here.” said Simon Grant, “I got the chance to meet a few of the supporters on my debut at Hanwell and I got a really warm welcome. Have to say, the fans have been class with me.
There’s a good group here. A group that will only get better and I’m determined to play my part in that. The focus is on the remainder of the season, but I’m proud to be here again next year.”
“Granty has been brilliant.” Dan Brownlie noted “His performances have exceeded all expectations aside from that of his own. We’re really enjoy working with him; and I know the lads have enjoyed playing with him. It was a very easy conversation; Simon was up for it the moment it was mentioned – and that’s testament to the club.”
“I’m not sure of the last time we’ve been able to explore the idea of contracts a season ahead, certainly not in my time. The club were keen to make it happen and its been a common question from supporters. Credit to Simon – he made it really easy for us. We can’t be overly frivolous with contracts and the commitment they hold; but to already have Billy & Simon with us into the new season is a great foundation in which to work. Not only are they very good players; they’re players people want to play with and be alongside on and off the pitch. That counts for a lot.”
We’re sure this will come as good news to Basingstoke supporters. They’ll have another opportunity to show their support on Saturday afternoon when we host Bracknell Town in a 3pm kick off at Winklebury.
