Last Saturday on the 4th December Basingstoke representatives from both the ladies team and men’s first teams including staff, players and chairman spent the morning packing and making hampers for the Basingstoke food bank which are to be handed out to local people over the Christmas period.
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems.
Women’s Club captain Alice Weaving said “We were delighted to be packing Christmas hampers for the Basingstoke Foodbank for the second year running! It’s such an incredible charity which supports our community not only during this festive period but throughout the year!”
Men’s Club Captain Simon Dunn added “It’s nice to play our part in such a great community initiative – it was a great atmosphere and we are all pleased to be able to give something back to the town. We know it will make a big difference to families in this great town.”
