V Badshot Lea

Tomorrow evening we host Badshot Lea in a mid-season friendly at Winklebury Complex.

Manager, Dan Brownlie said about the game;

‘We’ve got a good relationship with Badshot Lea, I speak with Gavin quite regularly as one of our boys is on loan there currently having recently gained international clearance. They’re a side with huge ambition driven by a very passionate chairman in Mark Broad. There are a number of reasons for the friendly, mainly it’s due to having a couple of players I want to look at and it also gives us an opportunity to try a few things in preparation for Saturday. The likes of Bradley will certainly be involved as it’ll provide him welcomed minutes amongst his new teammates. Longer term, it’s also important that we find a rhythm in playing two games a week. At the moment we are Saturday to Saturday, but with the weather turning there will become a stage in the new year where we’ll be playing midweek due to postponed fixtures.’

‘They’ve got a very good squad and some good experienced players in their ranks, the likes of Ashley Lloyd and Nic Ciardini who I’ve worked with previously will provide a stern test. So it’ll be a good game, there’s no doubt about that.’

Brownlie also offers an update on some of the recent departures from BTFC

‘It’s been a tough couple of weeks. Obviously, Reuben picked up an injury which we are continuing to monitor with Wimbledon. Zach and Alfie have been recalled by their respective first teams and Kuhly has moved on to Slough Town. When you lose four players of that kind of quality you’re always going to take a hit – four players who had been largely immovable objects since I’ve come in.’

‘Granted it’s not ideal as it’s a difficult time to pick up players; but there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We’re confident we’ll be able to bring in a few that can add quality to the squad. We’ve labelled some targets and will be holding conversations over the next few days but we’ll only be signing players that we believe will add to the squad and have a true desire to play for Basingstoke Town.’

Tomorrow’s game takes place at 7.45pm at Winklebury Sports Complex.
