Stockbridge Preview

Update: this match will now be played at Winklebury Football Complex.

On Tuesday 11 January we take on Hampshire Premier League side Stockbridge FC in the semi-finals of the North Hants Senior Cup. ‘

The Robins’ are on a four game unbeaten run which includes beating our neighbours Overton 2-1 in the dying moments of the game and Colden Common by two goals to one in their most recent fixture.

Our hosts for Tuesday are managed by Fran Mathers and his side boast an impressive home record winning 11 of their 14 games (all competitions), drawing two and only recording one loss. In their 24 games this season – they’ve scored an impressive 55 goals. Daly Reece sits at the top of their goalscoring charts with 10 goals with Timo Gleed scoring 7 but in nearly half the amount of games.

Stockbridge progressed into the semi-finals following a 3-1 home win versus Winchester Castle, Basingstoke progressed beating Fleet Town convincingly by five goals to nil.

A number of Academy players will get another opportunity to gain valuable first team experience once again. Dan Brownlie has noted that following our fixture postponement with South Park that the approach to the game has taken a little bit of a shift.

“As we did against Fleet in the previous round we want to blend a level of first team players alongside some Youth players. Many of them train with us regularly, so there’s already a good understanding but it’s important that there is a mix as they’ll take their lead from some of the more experienced lads. The approach will be slightly different with Saturday being off, but nothing drastic – there just maybe a few more first team players out on show. Joe Western is out with an injury but the likes of Dan Morrissey, Hugo Staunton and one or two others will be involved. There are a few lads that haven’t played much football in recent weeks, due to injury, illness and suspensions – so the game has come at a good time.”

“We’re also hoping it’ll be a chance to get Danny Vickers and Brody Peart some game time too, but that’ll likely be off the bench as we don’t want them doing too much too soon. We’re looking forward to the game and we hope to see our supporters in their numbers at Winklebury.”
