We can confirm that the club has concluded investigations into the incidents that happened at our last home game against Willand Rovers FC.
Following voluntary witness statements from attendees, match day officials and volunteers; as well as taking the advice and guidance from appropriate bodies restrictions to those supporters are now in place.
Vice Chairman Kevin White said
‘It’s a shame that it’s come to this; but in our bid to ensure this club is welcoming to everyone – we cannot tolerate the kind of behaviour that took place last week. I would like to thank the supporters who came forward with their statements. Many of which commended our Chairman, Terry Brown, for supporting the match day stewards and speaking with the individuals involved. There is no place at the club or in football in general for the type of behaviour that was demonstrated by the individuals we have placed restrictions on. We advocate passionate support of our club; but we all know the lines – those individuals went far beyond what is acceptable and has put further pressure on our club.’
The restrictions imposed are for Basingstoke Town home games as the club are unable to place restrictions on away fixtures, however, as advised by the Police, we have a duty of care to inform other clubs where we have upcoming fixtures of the names of the individuals concerned.
We hope this stance will demonstrate our values as a community club in wanting to ensure a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
