We can confirm that following a successful appeal, Ben Jefford’s red card has been overturned.
Midway through the first half away at Barnstaple in a game that resulted in a hard-fought draw – Ben Jefford was handed a red card for what we believed to be a well timed tackle on the edge of the box when the striker was undoubtably goal bound.
At a Non-Personal meeting of a Regulatory Commission held today, the Members considered our claim of wrongful dismissal. From the evidence we provided members ruled that it was indeed a case of wrongful dismissal and therefore the automatic suspension is withdrawn.
Dan Brownlie said on the news:
“It’s a little bittersweet if I’m honest – I’m pleased that the members of the panel have made the right decision but equally frustrated that it [the red card] took place in the first instance. Not only did it put us down to ten men in already difficult conditions, but it was a real insult to the quality of the tackle! If we’d have been allowed to keep eleven men on the pitch – I’m confident the result in the end result would have been more positive – so it’s a tough one to take, but we can now draw a line under it and move on. Big thanks to Katie Oliver for sorting out the appeal.’
