It’s official – Conor Lynch has signed!
Basingstoke Town have signed goalscorer Conor Lynch from Thatcham Town FC. The ex-Hungerford Town forward will already be familiar to loyal ‘stoke fans who will remember him from his solitary game two seasons ago during the first expunged season where he scored on his debut in a 1-1 all draw with Willand Rovers. Eagle-eyed supporters would have also recognised him during our pre-season fixture versus North Greenford where he scored once again.
Dan Brownlie commented on his latest new signing:
“We’re really pleased to get Conor over the line. We’ve held quite lengthy discussions with him over the course of the past few months but we wanted to give him the freedom of thought to make a calculated decision – that was important to us, and him. Leaving Thatcham as Skipper was not going to be an easy decision, and a lot of credit has to go to Yash and Jamie Leacock for continuing his clear development last season that saw him score 6 in 9 games. We’re really pleased to have him on board.”
When questioned about what he’ll bring to the team, DB continued…
“He’s just so sharp. You can’t take your eye off him for a moment. We always knew he was a good player – we saw that last year, but it’s only in training when we’ve been up close and personal that you realise how deadly he really is in front of goal. He’s really impressed since coming in. He’s loves working hard too and whilst that is one of our non-negotiable’s – the fact it comes so easy to him will help set a tempo across the rest of the squad. He’s already earned the trust of his teammates and has settled into the squad which is a testament to his character.”
Conor Lynch had his say on moving to his new club
“After speaking to the Gaffer and those around the club I knew this was going to be the right opportunity for me. I’m delighted to be on board. I’m hungry for success and just can’t wait to get going.”
When quizzed about further new signings DB had this to say…
“We’ve got competition for places right across the squad now. It’s healthy in all departments. We haven’t got a heavy reliance on one individual which across a season is so vitally important. We wanted two players for every position and we’ve got that in pretty much every area of the park when you include players who can play in a variety of roles. There maybe one or two additions, so stay tuned…. but we’re happy with where we are.”
Conor will be amongst the squad that will face Hashtag United tomorrow afternoon in a three o’clock kick off at Winklebury.
