Basingstoke Town Community Football Club welcome the announcement that the Borough Council is to invest in the facilities at Winklebury Football Complex for the benefit of all levels of football within the borough. We recognise that investment in football – in which we have an important part to play – has significant social and health benefits and helps build a stronger community.
In particular, the improvements when complete will enable us to play again in the borough with a base at Winklebury, continue to grow our sports and education academy and range of youth teams, as well as promoting girls football and restoring Basingstoke Town Ladies FC .
Club Chairman Terry Brown said, ‘This is fantastic news that the Council has recognised the case for investment in football for the community and which will bring football for our club back to the borough. It will enable us to grow after decline brought about by the actions of the Camrose owner over the last three years.’
Terry Brown continued ‘We shall be seeking urgently more information about the improvements and the timing for completion which will affect when we can return home to the Town’
We would also like to express our thanks to individual councillors and the Council as a whole who have supported the need for this much required community investment.
