Winklebury Ground Grading

Our Town United

Basingstoke Town Football Club are delighted to announce that the Winklebury Sports Complex has passed its Southern League Ground Grading which will enable us to play future home games back in Basingstoke!

We’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible and to our fans for the patience and support they have shown in getting us back to our town.

It’s been a long and sometimes frustrating process however playing back in the town is a huge step for the club’s survival which will allow us to build stepping-stones to establish a brighter future.

Of course, whilst we are delighted to be getting back to the town – our on-going fight for a true like-for-like replacement of our once iconic stadium will continue and now with greater assurances of our future with our return to Basingstoke will provide a more solid foundation to fight the corner of the community. The protected gift to the community of Basingstoke and sport more widely was given a boost recently with proposals dismissed due to their distinct lack of clear planning, foresight and regard for the community.

Today’s news will allow us to truly showcase just how much this club can mean to its community and what the community means to this club. That in itself, should provide another key reason, amongst a whole host of many, to right the wrongs of the Camrose scandal.

Playing back in Basingstoke has handed your club a lifeline and also an opportunity to truly work with our local community. Having already established a women’s team, girls’ teams and links with the local youth club – we are already seeing that come to fruition.

This news also allows us the opportunity to thank everybody at Winchester City Football Club for making their facility available to us and welcoming us to their ground – a gesture that will live long in our history. It has allowed us to keep the club alive and provided a home away from home in the process.

We’d also like to thank Reading City FC for their recent use of their ground in our FA Cup win versus Bournemouth FC.

We would also like to thank everyone at Hampshire FA for their co-operation in heading up the operation and Paul Martin for all his help and support.

Town fans – we are back in Basingstoke! We cannot wait to welcome you to the Winklebury Stadium on the 24th October against the much-fancied title chasers AFC Totton.
