On behalf of all the members of the Community Club Board, we would like to express our total devastation and sadness at our relegation on Saturday. Although it came as a surprise to us all, maybe it shouldn’t have. The transition from the Owners decision to sell the Camrose, has seen the club change from one of the largest budgets in the Conference South, to the smallest budget in the Southern Premier. Martin Kuhl and Dan Brownlie have had to work under very difficult circumstances, with a tiny budget and no clarity surrounding the format or structure of the club. We have been able to work alongside BTFC, to understand and appreciate the enormous task that lies ahead for the new club. The Changeover will see the new club starting free of the large debts owed by BT LTD. However, we will immediately take on considerable costs in relation to the hire of our pitch and educational facilities at Winklebury.
The revenue streams previously enjoyed by the club via the Betting Shop, Car Wash, Astro Courts, and of course a busy Clubhouse are not available to the Community Club. When you add on running costs that a senior non-league club occurs such as transport, mainly to the West Country (Mini-Bus Required), Player and Management budget, New Community Club playing kit for First Team, Academy, and all JPL teams, Admin, heating, lighting etc, the financial task of ensuring our Club is sustainable is a massive one, made all the more difficult by the fact we have to build our own Clubhouse (see £10,000 Clubhouse Raffle Draw). Where are we now? Well the owner has pledged to provide now the monies required (about £100,000) at Winklebury to achieve the suitable ground grading (additional seating and terracing), but we won’t have any provision for a club house. A further sum will be released (about £150,000), making an overall total of £250,000 only when the Camrose is sold. despite our request, the availability of this further sum will not be brought forward. I personally met with the Owner’s representatives to clarify the position.
Now some positive news, on the back of our very successful meeting last Thursday we have already received a fantastic donation from one of our supporters of £5,000 towards our clubhouse. A big thank you for that. Season Tickets are going well, we need to sell 250 plus to give us £20,000 float for the start of the season. The clubhouse tickets (Phase One – Single Storey) are selling well, we will be issuing details of where and when you can purchase these tickets after our marketing meeting tonight. The response from our meeting has been very positive with high quality volunteers coming forward to assist the club in finding sponsors and partners, to promote and sell our club in a professional manner; and to assist in other key areas. Great response from our Artisan appeal with several professional tradesmen offering their services to the club (meeting TBA), several volunteers offering their services to man the gates. Match Stewards, general duties, helping out with events, selling our season and Raffle Tickets (we need you for this weekend) details later this week.
OUR CLUB is at one of the lowest points in its proud history. Watching the tears of supporters and members of the new board, should help galvanize all of us. No single individual in shining armour riding up to Winklebury. to secure our future. We have to make this club ourselves, we live in a thriving prosperous fantastic Town. It doesn’t matter if your main team is Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, or Liverpool. Get your backside up off the chair, e-mail or phone us and to ask or tell us “What you can I do to Save Basingstoke Town?”. We are using the BTFC contact points at present, so let’s hear from you, no matter how little or much you can help. Email: email@example.com or call Martin French on 07831804692 Our Club will rise again winning leagues and enjoying great cup wins. You will be able to proudly tell your children and grandchildren that you played your part in keeping our club alive. We will take control in June.
Let’s enjoy the journey. Best Regards
Terry Brown Chairman of Basingstoke Town Community Football Club
