The Club is disappointed to learn that we will face a one point deduction and a £100 fine due to fielding an illegible player. The League punishment stems from ex-Goalkeeper Chris Rackley taking part in our Southern League fixture away to AFC Totton.
It was genuinely believed the Hampshire Senior Cup still counted as a Senior competition as far as player discipline was concerned. This is now not the case and therefore Rackley would have been eligible to play in the fixture against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium and not the league fixture at AFC Totton which Rackley was selected for. This has now resulted in the point deduction and fine.
‘It’s a big blow, there’s no doubt about that’ said Dan Brownlie, First Team Manager ‘however, there is nothing we can do about it now, you can see how the error took place. We have to take it on the chin and move on, win games and ensure that this deduction isnt important when it comes to the end of the season.‘
