Official Statement Regarding Playing At Winchester City

Statement on behalf of the Community Club

BT Ltd, the current owner of the Football Club, have arranged for the opening 2019/20 fixtures to be played at Winchester City.

The ground share is subject to approval by The Southern League.

This has been necessary for several reasons.

For the new Community Club to play fixtures at Winklebury as Basingstoke Town FC, the necessary work and the ground improvements need to be approved, funded and completed. Terry Brown, Chairman of the Community Club said “We are working hard to make this happen as soon as possible”

Additionally, the transfer of the FA licence to play as Basingstoke Town FC from the private owner to the Community Club, has to be agreed by the National FA.
The application process is not yet complete. Only the Community Club has agreement to play at Winklebury.

The high profile friendly with Luton Town – part of the deal taking Aaron Jarvis to the Hatters – will be played at Winchester City on Tuesday the 16th of July.

Terry Brown said “The initial ground sharing with Winchester City does not diminish the ambition and aims of the Community Club. It strengthens our desire to play at Winklebury. Until then we shall see how support might be given to help fans travelling to Winchester”.
