On Tuesday evening the boys were back in training following the hustle and bustle of the festive period. In what was a more than disappointing week for the ‘Stoke, Dan Brownlie commented on the reaction by the players
All you can ever ask for after that kind of performance is a reaction; that reaction takes many forms – showing a real attitude and willingness to improve in training and then implementing the same desire, work ethic and quality into the next game. I’m pleased to say that having just returned from our training session (albeit a little cold and wet!); the group worked hard, understood what needs to be done and remains in good spirits. Don’t think that the latter point is through a lack of care; it’s quite the opposite – we all need to ensure we are together to tackle this difficult period for our club and thats with a positive and determined view.’
This afternoon the Academy are playing Windsor in their first game of 2020. Kalum Cousins, Aiden Harris and D’andre Brown are all set to feature.
Thursday evening will again see the boys regroup in preparation for Saturday’s trip to Barnstaple. The Gaffer made comment on new arrival Josh Edwards who trained for the first time…
“It was great to have Josh, he’s a good character and the boys have taken to him already. We did a bit of fitness work which ended with a few competitive races over varied distances – we thought he’d drawn the short straw in partnering up with Riccardo – but he gave him a run for his money. The boy is quick!’
‘We needed some fresh faces, not just to add much needed competition but we needed to add greater quality in important areas. We’ve secured two talented boys in Aaron Watkins & Josh Edwards and we will continue to look to improve our squad where we can. This is all in mind that I want to establish a settled side with a group of players honest, hardworking players with an attitude, determination and quality to match.’
Saturday will then see the boys make the long journey to Barnstaple.
‘Barnstaple have invested in their squad and they’ve been improving dramatically in results and by the sounds of things performances. However, that said we need to concentrate on what we are doing and enforce our game, something we’ve failed to do in recent games. The boys understand that we cannot simply turn up and expect to get results – we know what we need to do and I’m sure the boys will be up for the battle.’
There are still a few spaces on the coach for supporters wishing to travel to the game. Please get in touch with a board rep if you’d like to book your place.
