We caught up with Basingstoke striker Sam Argent. Sam who has got eleven goals to his name already this season joined from neighbours Hartley Wintney two years ago with his second spell at the club.
The ex-Southampton player is enjoying life under new manager Martin Kuhl having featured in every game under the new boss.
“It’s been really good, he has a lot of ideas and knows exactly what he wants from us players. We are still learning and trying to implement his style of play, that will of course take time, but it’s been a good start under him.”
A fans favourite whose name is sung regularly from the Town End has pretty simple goals from the season…
“My personal goal is to score as many as possible and help the team progress up the table and challenge for the playoffs! That is a long way off as there are plenty of points to play for and we can’t take our eye off the next game, but that’s the ultimate aim.”
“Sam Deadfield has really impressed me this season. He’s taken up a slightly deeper role this year and is dictating and controlling games and he’s scoring goals too”
In an honest appraisal of the start to the season, Argent continues…
“I think we all know we haven’t got off to the start we wanted. We’ve got a lot of talent in our dressing room we just need to manage games better and keep being brave on the ball and I’m sure we will get going on a run of games and push up the table!”
“I’m excited for the game Boxing Day, hopefully have a few players back from illness and get that away win.”
Basingstoke travel to Gosport Borough on Boxing Day with a three o’clock kick off.
