Ben Wright scored the final goal at the Camrose Stadium, but it wasn’t enough as Basingstoke were relegated.
With all results going against Basingstoke they now prepare for life at a lower level.
The first chance of the game fell to captain Charlie Kennedy. From Wright’s cross Dan Bayliss flicked the ball into the middle and Kennedy’s header was saved.
Sam Deadfield had a chance to put the home side ahead as Wright laid off Sam Smart’s cross but the midfielder put the ball agonisingly wide.
Taunton then took the lead as Andrew Neal scored from the penalty spot.
Smart then shot at an impossible angle but the ball flashed just past the post.
Tom McGill was forced into action and the England U19 keeper made a fantastic save pushing the ball past the post.
HALF TIME 0-1.
The away side doubled the lead as Ryan Brett rifled past McGill.
The first chance for Basingstoke in the second half came as Bayliss was unmarked in the box, but the keeper saved the header.
Wright then guided home a lovely cross from Smart to half the deficit.
Deadfield then went close as his shot rippled the outside of the net.
The final chance of the game came in stoppage time as Wright stepped up for the free-kick, but it curled wide.
