Jason Bristow’s first game back in charge for Basingstoke ended in a resounding 7-0 victory for his side.

Basingstoke started to get on top in the first half. Most of the attacks were coming down the flanks with lots of service for Sam Argent. Argent opened the scoring for the Dragons after a mistake from the hosts. The ball made it to the forwards feet who brushed the ball under the on-rushing goalkeeper around the 35th minute.

Argent had the final chance of the first period after the Alton keeper made a strong save which came out to Sam Deadfield who blazed over the bar just before half time.

With a change of XI and ends for Basingstoke, George Bennett started the second half scoring early on. His strike from the edge of the area went flying across the keeper making it 2-0. Immediately after Dan Collier’s long-range effort from around 25 yards out fizzed into the top corner.

Callum Bunting had the ball in the back of the net but was flagged for offside after good build up play from the wonderfully named Zidan Akers, when his pass found Bennett and his shot was parried to the offside forward.

Akers was involved once again in the build up to the fourth goal down the right wing as his low cross found Bennett who passed it into the empty net for his second. Bennett almost completed his hat-trick with a far post shot which was bundled in by the assured centre-back Harry Philby.

Bunting after some good footwork was taken down in the box and awarded the penalty. He dispatched it down to the keepers right with an assured finish, making it 6-0. Bennett once again almost completed his hat-trick after his drilled shot forcing a wonderful finger tip save onto the bar and dropped down very close to going over the line before it was cleared.

Ethan Burden added a seventh goal after a brilliant second half display from Basingstoke. Akers again was involved in the build up who played the ball between full-back and centre-back to allow Burden to get the ball around the keeper with the final kick of the game.
