Dan Bayliss, Sam Smart and Sam Deadfield have returned from a fantastic week of training and games at the V9 Academy.
40 players attended the week-long camp in the unbelievably impressive facilities of the Etihad Campus. For Basingstoke Town to have had 3 players out of 40 there is a tremendous testament, not only to the players themselves, but also Terry & Jason.
Dan was the only player to start in the inter-academy game where two sets of the V9 Academy took to the pitch. It was clear that there was a lot of quality on the pitch and Bayliss certainly added to that with an assured performance in the heart of defence. Sam Deadfield strolled out onto the green carpet at the beginning of the second half and began conducting the rest of the orchestra with an impressive performance. Sam and Dan’s team eventually won the game.
It was then time for Sam Smart to grace the pitch and it didn’t take him long to showcase his talents and speed as he latched onto a loose ball and drove down the wing and cut an inch perfect cross to the on running centre forward. Sam was a constant thorn in the side of the LFE (League Football Education) team and created a plethora of chances for the V9 Academy.
The boys did really well and in conversation with several of the scouts they were all very positive and complimentary about their performances. They should be proud of their efforts and that their talents are being recognised by the wider world of football.
