Basingstoke head west on Saturday to Frome, looking for revenge against the side who visited us at the Camrose on the opening day and becoming the only side so far to take any points from us at home this season with a 3-1 win. Ben Wright got on the scoresheet for Basingstoke on that day and he will be looking to lead the charge to reignite his sides attack which faltered at Bishops Stortford last weekend, failing to score for the first time in 11 games.
Frome go into the game on the back of a defeat themselves, going down 3-0 at Royston Town on Saturday. Our hosts tomorrow will be looking for their first league win in nearly a month. The match throws up an interesting contest, pitting a Basingstoke side which have struggled away from home, against a Frome side who have struggled at home, with just four points from their six home matches so far. Both sides will see the game as an opportunity to reverse their form.
This fixture last season fell on Boxing Day and ended in a 1-1 draw, Aaron Jarvis putting Basingstoke ahead in the first half before being pegged back and seeing Joe Gater sent off late on. A win for Basingstoke could cut the gap to the playoffs to four points and set the side up nicely for a home-and-away league and cup double header against Dorchester next week.

Basingstoke suffered another away defeat in a wind affected game in Somerset at the Special Effect Stadium as Frome completed the double over their visitors. It took just seven minutes for the hosts to take the lead, Mitchell Page receiving the ball with his back to goal in the box before swivelling and sliding a shot under Colm McAdden for the opener.
Basingstoke responded well to the early setback. Sam Argent saw Kyle Phillips pull off an outstanding save to keep Frome in front and Callum Bunting headed just wide following a corner. Argent also had a good chance to equalise as the game headed for half-time but Phillips came off his line quickly to save at the striker’s feet.
The home side were still creating chances of their own though, Jake Jackson was denied by the feet of McAdden before seeing the Basingstoke stopper pull off a superb reaction save to tip over his near post volley. Right on the stroke of half time Jon Davies’ fired a left footed shot against the post with McAdden beaten but the ball stayed out.
Playing with the wind behind them in the second half, Basingstoke looked to get back into the game. Argent had another chance but his low shot was held comfortably by Phillips in the Frome goal while Dan Collier also found the keeper in the way. Ashleigh Artwell and Sam Smart were introduced in a bid to find the equalising goal and the latter got behind the defence with a quick one-two but again couldn’t beat Phillips.
At the other end, Basingstoke just about survived as McAdden reacted quickly to eventually claim the ball in the midst of a scramble in the box as Frome broke away. The effort was all in vain though as time ran out on Basingstoke, falling to a seventh away defeat from eight games.
