Zidan Akers long range wonder goal sealed Basingstoke Town’s place in the next round of the FA Cup.

Sam Deadfield’s tap in was enough to secure Basingstoke’s progression into the second qualifying round, where they take on Bristol Manor Farm.

Sam Smart had the first chance of the game when Akers good work down the wing crossed it to the winger got on the end of it and blazed it over.

There was a big shout for a penalty as Sam Argent looked to be bundled to the floor, but the referee waved away the protests from the players and fans.

Paulton had their first big chance just after the half hour mark but Colm McAdden made a very good save down low to his near post.

A blistering run from Smart as he ran from his own half and skipped past four players before smashing his shot just wide.

Just before half time a dubious penalty was awarded to the away side. Put McAdden pulled off a wonderful save to his bottom right getting both hands on it pushing it away.

HALF TIME: 0-0

First chance of the second half went to the away side but once again McAdden got his leg out in time to keep his sheet clean.

A wonderful over head kick from Argent set up a chance for Dean Stow but his shot was deflected over.

On the 64th minute Akers drove into the oppositions half and had two men over on the counter attack but decided to go alone and smashed the ball into the top corner from around 25 yards as it deflected into the top corner.

McAdden once again was in action as he threw his body in front of yet another shot to keep the away side out.

Deadfield doubled the lead after Argent held the ball up well and found Jack McKnight who drove towards goal and crossed it in low to the on coming midfielder to slide in and progress the home side into the next game.

With the game coming to a close the ball dropped to McKnight around 35 yards out and hit it on the half volley which forced Rob Brown into a good save.
