George Bennett’s goal and three assists helped Basingstoke to yet another convincing win in their final away pre-season game.
Bennett’s first assist came after his long ball over the top found Zidan Akers who dinked it over the on-rushing goalkeeper to make it 1-0 after just six minutes.
Bennett then forced the keeper into a smart save from a long-range shot before Ben Wright headed against the bar from a corner.
After some good footwork from Akers he found his forward partner Bunting whose shot was saved into Stow’s path who tapped it in and doubled the score line.
HALF TIME 0-2.
Adam Nditi was involved in the first few chances for Basingstoke in the second half, drawing the Alresford goalkeeper into a save. Just moments later he found himself in the referee’s notebook for a late sliding challenge down the left-hand side.
The third goal for the away side came when Harry Philby powered in a header at the back post after Bennett whipped the ball in from a short corner.
Just three minutes later the goal scoring centre-back Philby made a goal saving challenge after coming across from the left-hand side and taking everything with him with a wonderful slide tackle.
Nditi was penalised for a handball in the area which was converted by the Alresford forward.
Second half substitute Sam Argent scored after good work down the left wing from Akers who found the forward and took one touch before smashing the ball in at the near post.
Bennett completed his hat-trick of assists when his corner landed on Shane Hollamby’s head at the back post and made it 5-1 with three minutes to go.
In the final move of the game Argent found himself down the right wing and pulled the ball back for Bennett who slotted into the bottom corner with the last touch of the game giving the away side a 6-1 victory.
